PANAYIOTIDES RESIDENCE

Location: GERMASOYIA
Project Status: COMPLETED

OBJECTIVES - MAIN IDEA

The building is located in an area with private villas in the hills of the city and seeks to resolve the facts of the plot such as the planning regulations, the slope, maximizing the views across the adjacent buildings, the correct orientation and the building program for a family of four.

The building results from the intersection of two rectangular volumes with a clear orientation towards the south and overlooking the sea.

The house follows the elongated shape along the northern side of the plot to release more free space on the south side.
The need for south-facing spaces is resolved in the cross section, allowing the sun to penetrate in all areas.

FUNCTION

The entrance of the building is located in a recess on the blind western side adjacent to the road network.
Transparency and the maximum sunlight in the spaces from the south is the main feature of the residence, while the privacy of the residents is established as all other facades are almost blind.

On the ground floor the spaces operate as a whole. Under the 5m long cantilever the main terrace was placed so that there is a better view of the sea and the city.
The floor level is accessed by a metal staircase that leads to a shared space that serves as an office-loft. Beyond that are the bedrooms in a linear layout facing south.

MATERIALS

The building (walls, beams, slabs) is constructed entirely of reinforced concrete, visible metal elements combined to avoid large diameter columns on the south side of the building emphasizing the concept and design of the cantilever. The blind recessed surfaces that act as solid elements are coated with copper.
